Colorado Springs Legacy Dance Competition and LaBlast Fitness
Thank you to Louis van Amstel, creator of LaBlast Fitness and former Dancing with the Stars professional, for inviting me to speak to his LaBlast Retreat immediately after dancing my last round at Legacy Dance Festival. Louis knows the power of dance and movement in changing lives! He kindly awarded my book to top teachers and students of his Legacy competition at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs:
Wisconsin State Dance Championships
My first dance instructor—then and now! What a joy to see John Abrams at the Wisconsin State Dance Championships. As I write in my book The Dance of Resilience, I walked into an Arthur Murray Studio at age 35 never having danced before. I viewed my teacher, John Abrams, as an expert dancer, and I was totally intimidated by him. So imagine my surprise last week when John told me I was one of his very first students, and he was intimidated by me because I was a state senator! Thanks, John, for creating that first 45-second Walz showcase that had my mom, herself a former Arthur Murray dance instructor, in tears. It was my breakthrough to a new passion and I will always be grateful. Thank you!
Day of Dance, Des Moines Ballroom, May 2nd
Many thanks to Des Moines Ballroom hosts Tallis Strub, Ann Bates, and Joey Rochford for inviting me to spend their Day of Dance with them and with my good friend Lisa Davis, below. Lisa’s story is Chapter Seven in The Dance of Resilience. She has danced many years, is both a dance leader and follower, and has been blind since the age of 18. Her story of resilience is amazing. Here she is dancing with her instructor, Derek Pasqualetto.
